I live in Shropshire and think that it is one of the most beautiful counties in England. It is also one of the quietest, being relatively sparsely populated and with few centres of industry.The Welsh Marches are the area of Shropshire which borders Wales and has been the scene of much turbulence over the centuries as English Kings and Marcher Lords sought to exert control over the Welsh and the Welsh resisted. Local names of people and places reflect both Welsh and English roots. The whole area has a strong sense of history and is full of character.
